Legislation Provides Cost-of-Living Increase for Veterans With Disabilities

Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs discharged by Unanimous Consent a bill yesterday, Sept. 11, 2014, that would increase compensation benefits for vets with disabilities.

The Veterans’ Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment Act, S. 2258, would direct the secretary of Veterans Affairs to increase the rate of veterans’ disability compensation, additional compensation for dependents, the clothing allowance for certain disabled vets, and dependency and indemnity compensation for surviving spouses and children starting on December 1st. The cost-of-living increase would match that of the Social Security benefits increase.

The bill was introduced in April by Senator Mark Begich (D, Alaska) and Senator Mary Landrieu (D, Louisiana) was added yesterday to the cosponsors. The bill now heads to the House for further action.
