The City of New Orleans is playing host to the NCAA Men’s Final Four this weekend. As a native of the area, I am always proud when my city plays host to major sporting events. New Orleans does have a great reputation to live up to in event hosting, and it delivered this weekend.
The family and I went to downtown New Orleans both Friday and Saturday to experience the excitement. Although I have no team in the finals, my in-laws are Kansas Jayhawk fans and so my kids support KU as well. The electricity in the city was palpable and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.
We visited Bracket Town on Saturday and my kids had a blast. They scored a ton of goodies – arm bands, head bands, pictures, basket ball net head gear, and more. Plus, they got to participate in a variety of games including baskets of mayhem, slam dunk contests (on lowered goals), football, baseball, hockey, lacrosse, fencing, Olympic shooting, and more.
I even met a couple from Kentucky way out in my neck of the woods – Luling (about 30 minutes outside the city limits) – during lunch today. They had nothing but praise and said New Orleans is the best Final Four they have ever visited.
New Orleans really knows how to throw a party. I cannot wait for the Superbowl excitement next year. Hopefully, our New Orleans Saints will be in it!
