Don’t Deal With Your Frustrations or A Denial By Threatening the ALJ

A brief update today because the Bourgeois family just welcomed its newest member, Reid Joseph, late yesterday evening.

But, this article on Threats to Social Security Disability Judges caught my eye and I wanted to write a few words.

First, these threats are uncalled for, dangerous, and the people making these threats should be arrested and charged.  Social Security ALJs are only doing their job in the best way they know how.  Now don’t get me wrong, I do not always agree with every decision, but threatening the judge and their family is not the way to change the system or get the benefits.

Second, the article does point out the source of many of my clients’ frustration – the length of time to get a decision.  This is a real problem, especially for individuals who have no income, no insurance, but who must continue to live and seek treatment.  However, threats to judges and their families are not the way to enact change to the system.

If you are frustrated by the process or the length of time the process takes, please let your Congressperson know, they are really the only people who can effect change to the system.
